Moya Moya disease
is
a rare condition affecting cerebral vessels.
It was initially described in JAPAN. Its
name means
"puff of smoke",
because of the pecular aspect on medical imaging of neovessels arising
from the carotidian arterial system within the brain.
Such angiographical anomalies being shared by several
diseases, the
general designation as "Moya Moya syndrome" is the most appropriate:
syndrome refering to a distinctive pattern of clinical or paraclinical
features, often having several causes, either known or still
unknown.
